But now,courtesy of Sony’s latest Q2 financial report, we know that the game has also been a smash hit for consumers.Team Asobi’sfirst full-length Astro-centric adventure has platformed its way to 1.5 million units sold as of June 05, 2025, nearly three months since its initial launch.
That 1.5 million unit figure has Astro Bot outpacing the likes ofReturnalandRatchet and Clank, both well-received titles. However, there is another metric that should excite fans when it comes to Astro Bot’s future prospects.
Astro Is For Everyone
Of the 1.5 million units sold, 37%, or nearly 600,000 units were sold to new users. Sony has defined a new user as someone who hasn’t purchased a piece of first-party software in the last two years other than Astro Bot.
In other words, a significant portion of the game’s audience were people who weren’t enticed by other PlayStation first-party titles, but came around to purchase Astro Bot. For reference, over the last two years alone, PlayStation has releasedMarvel’s Spider-Man 2, a pair of remasters for itsThe Last of Us series, andGod of War Ragnarök, among other first-party offerings.
According to Sony, Astro Bot has had a considerable effect on its youth segment. In that same report, the company noted the following:
The percentage of younger age groups and families purchasing the title was much higher than other titles, and the title is contributing significantly to a widening of the user base through the acquisition of new users and the expansion of our title portfolio.
Astro Bot has continued to receive post-launch DLC support in the form of new bots and time trial missions, though based off these numbers, its future prospects look extremely bright. Surely it won’t be long before we get another Astro Bot experience, or something adjacent, especially as Sony tries to maintain its newfound success among young gamers.
